Winter Blues

I'm a sucker for a festive holiday dress. Christmas is the perfect excuse to break out your favorite red, green, and metallic pieces, and I typically do. The red gingham dress that I wore to a party last night could not have screamed "Christmas" any more!

This Christmas Eve, however, I'm branching out with a blue dress.

I first laid eyes on it a few months ago when my mom was shopping and sent me a picture of it. She tends to know what I like, and she was certainly right about this one. It was love at first sight!

I was doing some last-minute Christmas shopping the other day and saw it in person, and I couldn't resist trying it on. It fit perfectly, which was all I needed in order to be convinced.

The details of the dress are just perfect: the cap sleeves, exposed zipper, leather trim, bandaged bodice, and lots of lace. Plus, it's fit and flare, which is universally flattering. It's elegant and feminine, yet so different from anything else I own because of its color.

These suede bow heels, an old favorite from Banana Republic, add a touch of fun without distracting from the dress.

I originally bought these earrings for my debutante ball last month, but I know I'll continue to get use out of them. They're slightly fancier than the pearl studs I wear everyday but every bit as classic.

My ring and bracelet--both heirlooms--amplify the elegance of the whole outfit. And, along with the blue dress, I strayed from my traditional Christmas look by opting for a sparkly pink manicure instead of my usual red.

Please excuse how dark these pictures are! Considering my family goes to midnight mass, I didn't want to get ready too early, so I was photographed just as the sun was setting. Oops!

Wishing you a very merry Christmas!
