Freshman Dorm Room Tour

While some people, for obvious reasons, dread living in a dorm room, being back in mine since Christmas break has reminded me just how much I actually enjoy it. Don't get me wrong: I miss my queen-sized bed and much prefer to shower without wearing shoes, but overall I'm pleased with my freshman year living situation. I think a big part of the fun for me was getting to decorate this blank slate!

It definitely wasn't love at first sight though! I was absolutely frightened when I first walked into this room.

Unpacking boxes and assembling the room was a time-intensive task, but luckily my roommate, Cameron, and I had help from our moms (while our dads "stayed out of our way" at the Bulldog Tavern). We managed to finish the bulk of the work by the end of move-in day, and the space was really transformed!

Because I love a good before and after...

Cameron and I wanted our room to feel cohesive, so we decided on matching bedding and a white, blush, and gold color scheme. The initials on our wall were a simple and inexpensive summer project of mine. I just spray-painted giant cardboard letters from the craft store, but I love how they take up so much space on our otherwise bare walls!

We were blessed with ridiculously large desks, shelves, and closets. It's a good thing I brought plenty of items to fill them!

This bulletin board for my jewelry was a last-minute addition. I had some empty wall space and a bulletin board with no purpose (since there's a huge one on the wall behind my desk), and I still needed a place to store my jewelry. I found these brilliant hook push pins to be the perfect solution!

The rolling cart provides just enough storage for our dishes, K-cups, and other food items without sacrificing much floor space. And easily the best purchase of the entire room--besides maybe our mattress toppers--was the blackout curtains. Our room stays so dark, so, although it's especially difficult to get out of bed in the morning, I'd say they were worth every penny.

Check out the size of that closet!
