Friday Five: June 2018

Long time, no Friday Five! After a few months of these posts, I'm finding that I average about one per month, so that is what I'm going to stick to, making these more of monthly favorites posts. However, for a little more structure and variety, I'll be incorporating categories into each month's post: favorite I read, watched, ate, bought, and did. Since it's the last Friday in June, I'm here today with this month's favorites!

A Day-to-Night Outfit

For the past six weeks, I've been taking two summer classes at a local university. The classes only last four hours a day, which means I've had the rest of my days free to do whatever I need or want. While it's made for a flexible schedule, it's also required me to dress in a way that works for class in the morning and for whatever I'm doing after. I think I've finally mastered the idea of a day-to-night look and want to share my results with you!

Sweet Potato Hummus & Pita Chips

Ever since including this Real Simple recipe in my March Friday Five post, I've been dying to make sweet potato almond hummus. It combines some of my favorite ingredients--sweet potatoes, almond butter, chickpeas, lime--into one of my favorite snacks. This weekend, I finally got around to making it for my family, and it got rave reviews, so I'm sharing it here!

10 Dorm Room Essentials

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: I brought way too many things to school with me this year. But now that I have a year of college under my belt, I have a pretty good idea of what I need and what I can leave at home. In order to hopefully save you from overpacking like I did, I've compiled a list of my ten dorm room essentials, in no particular order.

As part of my summer blogging schedule, I'm planning to release a college-related post every other week. I'd love to hear in the comments below if this is something you're interested in!

Summer Bucket List

Harbour Island, Bahamas

Last summer was a fun one, full of bright blue Bahamian waters and soaking up every last minute with family and friends before leaving for school. It taught me that, in order to take full advantage of the fleeting summer months, I have to be intentional about how I spend every day. That's why I like to make a bucket list, to ensure that I get to do everything I want before the summer is over. For my 2018 list, I've included 12 items for the 12 weeks left of my summer break.

Farmer's Market Fab

Last weekend, I visited a local farmer's market with two of my close friends. We strolled around, tasted fresh food, and enjoyed the beautiful summer weather. I styled this outfit for the occasion to allow me to beat the Florida heat while still looking my best.

My First Publishing

saying goodbye to my mom after Convocation

Upon arriving home for summer break, I was reflecting on my freshman year and wrote a blog post about the lessons I had learned. Before posting it though, I submitted it to Grown and Flown per my mom's suggestion, and, lucky for me, they offered to publish it!

They have exclusive rights to it for six months, so, although I cannot post it here like I originally planned to, I am linking to it below. I am incredibly excited about this opportunity and hope you'll share in my excitement because it really might be my best post to date.

Bedroom Organization Solutions

Not surprisingly, I brought way too many things to school this year. Unpacking it all took me much longer than it should've because it forced me to clean out at the same time. Although it was a pain in the process, now I'm glad I took the time to do it because an organized room makes for a happy MK! My organization solutions are always evolving as I acquire new things and get rid of others, so I thought I'd share the ones I recently developed.
