Friday Five: July 2018

This month, I've been really slacking on my summer goal of two posts a week. I'm not mad about it, though, because it just means I've been busy with a bunch of other things.

I've been living my dream by spending most of my days in the operating room, learning from pediatric surgeons and their residents and medical students. I've gotten back into my routine at The Bar Method--my favorite workout class--and it's reminded how good I feel when I'm consistently active. I've also gotten to spend a lot of time with my friends and had plenty of time to relax and read on my family's trip to the Bahamas. Read on for my favorites for the month of July!

One: Favorite I Read

Without a doubt, the best thing I read this month was The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks. My boyfriend's mom gifted it to me just before I left for Georgetown last summer (having read it and knowing full well I'd love it), and I've only just gotten around to picking it up. Once I did, though, I couldn't put it down. Any medical book is guaranteed to interest me, but the way this one reads like a novel makes it stand out from the others. If you have any interest in medicine, ethics, racial discrimination, or simply a fascinating story, this one's for you.

Two: Favorite I Watched

By now, I think everyone and their mother has seen Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, and for good reason. Like the original, it's such a fun movie with music that makes you want to get up and dance and a plot that makes you feel a whole range of emotions. If you still haven't watched it, what're you waiting for? Grab your own mamma, and head to the theater!

Three: Favorite I Ate Drank

Again, I have a favorite drink rather than food this month. With all of the early mornings I've been having lately, I finally gave into drinking coffee after years of resisting it. Every morning, I make myself an espresso with our Nespresso machine before running out the door--no milk, no sugar, just black--and I savor every bit of it.

Four: Favorite I Bought

I love Florida summers, but my hair does not. Between the humidity, chlorine, and daily ponytails, it always seems to be frizzy, dry, and broken. I picked up the OGX Coconut Milk Anti-Breakage Serum on a whim before my trip, and I'm so glad I did. Not only does it smooth and repair my hair, but it also smells like a beach vacation--score!

Five: Favorite I Did

As you might guess, my favorite thing I did during the month of July involved our vacation to the Bahamas. We spent a day on a sailboat, stopping at a remote island to snorkel and have a picnic and just enjoying being out on the water. The boat's captain brought along his dog, Lucky, who was a total hit.
